MATT YORK PRESENTS - THE HIGHWAYMEN
SONGS AND STORIES feat. THE MUSIC OF JOHNNY CASH
WILLIE NELSON, KRIS KRISTOFFERSON AND WAYLON JENNINGS
The Fallout Shelter - 61 Endicott Street, Norwood, MA, 02062
Songs and Stories is a music series that Matt York has been performing throughout New England since just before COVID. "While all my life, I've performed my own original songs, I've also been a huge fan of music and been an avid reader and listener of so many of my musical heroes." He adds. Songs and Stories is a 90 minute performance that blends songs by the artists and stories about their upbringing and impact on music. In 2022, Matt York did over 175 performances focusing on the The Highwaymen, which were Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings. His shows were SOLD OUT as far north as Toronto and as far south as Nashville. Bringing this unique presentation to The Fallout Shelter is part of our mission to protect and preserve the Roots of American Music. We're excited to bring this multimedia performance to our stage.
Recently nominated for the 2023 Boston Music Award for "Best Country Artist", Matt York lives on the South Shore of MA and has traveled extensively through the years performing his own songs and also doing The Highwaymen Songs & Stories.
In 2019, The Boston Globe named Matt York's new album "Bruisable Heart" one of their top albums. Matt grew up in Foxboro, Massachusetts and began playing the clubs of Boston as a teenager. Since then, he's played on stages throughout the United States and Canada.
The Boston Herald says of Matt York’s album Boston, Texas that ”the singer-songwriter uses basic building blocks — Buddy Holly’s chords, Hank Williams’ swagger, Steve Earle’s boozy wisdom, Paul Westerberg’s straight-up-drunk wisdom — to construct an album of beauty, optimism and heartbreak”. Matt's new album explores a cross-section of everything from straight-up rock n roll to hints of country. His album has received radio airplay throughout the world.
His album "Between the Bars" was released in late 2017. Gatehouse Media's Peter Chianca wrote "Put Boston’s Matt York in the 'should be rich and famous department' -- his country rock with a jangly edge has instantaneous appeal, combining wry lyrics about barflies, ex-lovers and fading summers with infectious melodies and a rocker’s penchant for strumming his way through heartbreak".
