ANI MARI AND CO. W/ SPECIAL GUEST AUTUMN HOLLOW

The Fallout Shelter - 61 Endicott Street, Norwood, MA, 02062

ANI MARI
Singer-songwriter Ani Mari’s debut solo album, girlfriend, explores the ambiguities of coming of age in a beautifully precarious world. Across ten warmly combative tracks, her songs fight for grace and connection amidst the anxieties, desires, heartbreaks, and oftentimes wearying joie de vivre of being young in America’s heartland.

Though just 21-years-old, Ani Mari has been performing solo, with her backing band, and with her folk duo, Ani & Kora, around her home state of Michigan for almost a decade, along the way sharing stages with The Accidentals, Lindsay Lou, May Erlewine, and Joshua Davis, among many others. On tracks like “whitefish bay” and “the prettiest things,” listeners will hear echoes of the forests and waters of the Upper Peninsula where she was raised, and the bluegrass and folk musical influences she grew up around. While the title track, “girlfriend,” might triangulate Ani Mari’s current temperature somewhere between Liz Phair, Waxahachee, and Ratboys, comparisons ultimately fall short. Compelling, alive, humming, and hungry, her indie-folk songwriting is 100% original, and definitely not to be missed.

AUTUMN HOLLOW

Autumn Hollow blends raw rock energy with thoughtful Americana storytelling, led by frontman Brendan Murphy's distinctive vocals and incisive songwriting. With Mike Burke's textured lead guitar work and the dynamic rhythm section of Chuck Vath (bass) and Ian McMillan (drums), the band has become a fixture in the New England music scene through performances at venues like The Paradise Rock Club and Club Passim.

Drawing from diverse influences spanning Bob Dylan to hip hop, Murphy crafts songs that feel both familiar and surprising. His background as a teacher brings lived experience to lyrics that often tackle social themes with nuance and insight. Their previous EP, Throw the House, earned Boston Music Award nominations and praise from the Boston Globe for their "unalloyed rock 'n roll."

Known for live shows that balance jam band spontaneity with tightly crafted songs, Autumn Hollow creates music that respects tradition without being constrained by it. Their forthcoming album Say No More represents a significant evolution in their sound—one that embraces experimentation while remaining accessible and emotionally resonant.

“Hot damn” might be used to describe the first few minutes of Boston-based Autumn Hollow’s “Wooden Wire,” a trembly rocker that combines the vulnerable essence of Jason Molina with the cosmic improvisational charm of Zuma era Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Frontman Brendan Murphy brings a commanding presence to the vocals, and an aura of unfiltered honesty cascades in the five-minute-plus song.
